Mary O. Wykle, Ph.D. Honorees/Awards
Mary received her Ph.D. in Education (Curriculum and Instruction) from Saint Louis University. Her residency was with the Scott Air Force Base Medical Center where she directed development of a weight management course – TUFF (Turn Unwanted Fat into Fitness). She received her Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Health and Physical Education from West Virginia University. Mary holds Aquatic Therapy and Rehabilitation Industry Certification and Aquatic Exercises Association Certification. She is a certified practitioner and presenter of Ai Chi – mind/body water course and is a certified instructor in Yoga and Pilates. She is a certified Lifestyle and Weight Management consultant with the American Council on Exercise. In addition, she teaches the Risk Awareness and Safety Training for Aquatic Therapy and Rehab Practitioners as an Instructor/Instructor Trainer.
Rick McAvoy PT, DPT, CSCS

Dr. Rick McAvoy, PT, DPT, CSCS has specialized in Aquatic Physical Therapy for over 20 years. He received an Associate’s Degree in Physical Therapy in 1988 from Becker College in Worcester, MA, a Bachelor's Degree in Physical Therapy in 1992 from the University of Connecticut and a Doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2007 from Franklin Pierce University. Rick is certified as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
He has invented aquatic exercise equipment and developed exercise software which sells both nationally and internationally. He is a research grant recipient and a published author and researcher in the field of Aquatic Therapy and Conditioning.
Rick established McAvoy Aquatic & Sports Therapy in 2007 to provide the highest quality of Aquatic Education for Physical Therapy & Sports Conditioning.
Rick is also the Aquatic Coordinator at Rehab 3 Center for Aquatics, an outpatient orthopedic and sports medicine facility in New Hampshire. He serves as the Education Coordinator for Swim Ex, a manufacturer of high quality pools for physical therapy clinics and sports training facilities. He is also a spokesperson for the Master Spas H2X RX therapy/conditioning spa which sells nationally. He is a Master Instructor in the Burdenko Method, a specialized form of dynamic aquatic and land-based techniques. Rick also lectures nationally throughout the year teaching the benefits of Aquatic Therapy and Conditioning to health care practices and athletic institutions.
Lisa A. Garrity, MA Ed.; CSCS
Fitness Education Specialist with almost 30 years of experience in the fitness industry, Lisa Garrity has a wide breadth of knowledge and skills related to all aspects of teaching others how to lead a healthy and fit lifestyle. She is currently a Certified Master Level Personal Trainer and Group Fitness Instructor teaching classes and training clients around San Diego County. She specializes in water exercise and therapeutic fitness training. She holds certifications from ACE, NSCA, AEA, Schwinn and Reebok Spinning, Gravity Training, BOSU, AIFE (Older Adult Fitness), the Arthritis Foundation, CPR and First Aid. At this time she is focusing on training other fitness instructors as a faculty member for Grossmont Community College, Exercise Etc., Inc. and AquaLogix Fitness Inc. where she functions as the Director of Education and Program Development.
Brian Ganster, BS
Brian received his Bachelors of Science degree in Physiological Sciences from the University of Arizona in 1999 with a specialization in Exercise Physiology and a minor in Chemistry. Following graduation, he spent several years in Arizona teaching high school math and science, and coaching high school basketball. In addition to his coaching responsibilities, he was also responsible for the development and implementation of the strength and conditioning program for his basketball players.
He eventually moved to San Diego, and in 2006 started a basketball skill development business called Fundamental Ballers Basketball. In 2008, he was introduced to Aqualogix at the Wavehouse Athletic Club, and spent the next year training under Zach Bumgarner to become an Aqualogix master trainer. Currently, Brian uses Aqualogix for strength, conditioning, and athleticism enhancement training with his athletes. In addition to his basketball players, he has expanded his training to include athletes from various sports including football, volleyball, golf, swimming, MMA, skiing, snowboarding and lacrosse, to name a few.
Brian is excited about this opportunity to partner with Aqualogix to develop, implement, and spread the dynamic athleticism enhancement techniques and benefits to athletes, elite trainers, and specialty clients everywhere.
Phil has been in the fitness industry for over twelve years. While he has extensive experience as a collegiate athlete, certified personal trainer, group fitness instructor, inventor, and fitness entrepreneur, his passion and expertise lies in unconventional water-based training. Phil was a Navy SEAL officer for nearly six years, spending the last two years as a Navy SEAL Instructor in Coronado, CA. He received his undergraduate degree from Yale University and an MBA from the Harvard Business School. Phil lives and works in San Diego with his wife and twin sons.
San Diego swim coach, ocean lifeguard and holder of numerous swim records is active in both the local and international swim community and committed to introducing water related fitness to individuals of all ages. Alison holds San Diego Imperial Age Group Swim Records, Masters Age Group Records, was a World University Games & Olympic Cup Gold Medalist and world ranked freestyler, and is currently a World Lifeguard Championships Gold Medalist. She was an inaugural inductee in the University of San Diego High School Sports Hall of Fame. Alison is widely recognized in the area as a result the water safety production she coordinates and presents to local elementary schools and numerous television appearances. Her 20-year background in aquatic training and coaching brings a personal expertise in enhancing core strength training and fitness technique.

Zach Bumgarner
Zach received his bachelor's degree in 2006 from nationally renowned Carroll College in Helena, MT. While at Carroll, Zach played on 4 consecutive national championship football teams that compiled an amazing record of 53-4 and went undefeated twice! He has appeared on ESPN's SportsCenter and Chris Berman's Top Plays for what is arguably the greatest play in Carroll College football history! Immediately after graduating Zach took a position as manager of the Jackson Hole Athletic Club in Jackson, WY. Zach implemented his first full AquaLogix class program at the Teton County/Jackson Recreation Center in 2006. For over one year, utilizing Jackson Hole's world-class environment, the opportunity to train professional and amateur athletes alongside all ranges of fitness professionals and enthusiasts firmly cemented AquaLogix's relevancy in elite athlete performance training, group fitness training, personal training, and rehabilitation. Over the last 3 years Zach has been adapting his extensive athletic and sports training background into teaching, training, and developing systems, programs, and workouts utilizing AquaLogix's revolutionary aquatic fitness training equipment.
